Where the lift is now

All of this is true and that’s why it’s funny. The efficiencies that are currently possible and happening, which of course is the underlying punchline of the sketch, are mind-blowing. And at the same time it’s also very wrong, in the sense that just because the actual execution of some of these things has become so easy now with the new technology, the challenge has moved to actually thinking things through. Being able to figure out what the system is, how things are fitting inside of your system, and how your business is creating value. That is where most of the lift now exists.

Side note: I originally meant to say “inefficiencies” in that second sentence above.

Both work, that’s what makes the world so strange right now. I’m sure there are people who are pulling off the 500k website, or some 6-figure version of it. That arbitrage exists for now.

Also, it is really difficult to explain and communicate to the buyer that despite AI, which accelerates execution, the value is in expertise and being able to see the whole. AI is often times still very local in its understanding of things. The buyer might have heard how great and fast AI is at building websites, and is wondering why you’d charge more than a few billable hours.

And lastly, liability and responsibility for any output created still sits with the operator. That’s risk, and that is expensive.
